Welcome to the Cantorion home page. Cantorion is a choir of ANU alumni and friends. We sing mostly a capella classical music, from rennaissance to contemporary, and we host social events for other ANU alumni and friends with an interest in choral music.

Coming up in 2007

Next Concert Plans:

Sunday afternoon 27 May, 3pm "Death and Glory".

Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3 Macleay St Turner. A concert featuring Purcell's Funeral Music for Queen Mary and Victoria's "Missa O Quan Gloriosum", with additional shorter works by Tallis, Gabrieli, Arcadelt & Philips. Plenty of lush renaissance-baroque doom & gloom with brass & drums. Yummy; don't miss it!

Rest of year TBA. Tentatively 3 concerts this year.

Next Socials:

Thurs 8 Feb, 2007, 6.30pm: Welcome back to old members, and open night for potential new members. Wine and cheese supper to follow a short sing. Bring songbooks if you have any - Cantorion, SCUNA, SUMS, any IV ones, there's lots of overlap.

March 2007: Winery tour. Exact date TBA. Or maybe not at all...

21st July 2007: Our annual dinner, Xmas in July! Come along and sing carols and eat too much - at the right season for it.

Cantorion is still recruiting!

We need tenors especially, but one or two of the other parts might be possible. We practice at ANU on Thursday evenings.

Although we are affiliated with the ANU alumni, you do not actually have to be a ANU graduate to join us. Alumni of AICSA choirs, and other people with an ANU connection such as staff, spouses and even just friends of alumni etc are welcome to join. Our general standard is intermediate - none of us are professional musicians, but we do all have several years of choral experience. If you can pick up and sing your line in a Dowland madrigal on two or three run-throughs (with your section, not necessarily solo), you'll do just fine. We'd welcome more expert singers, too, of course.
